Sports Day

Today was the school sports day - and as you would expect it was about 35 degrees and bright sunshine. What else do you do on such day but make children run around in the sun for 2 hours? The kids apparently had a good time, I cant comment on what the events actually were as there is a policy in the UK of not telling parents anything...we were encouraged to come and watch, but not given any information on what the kids were doing or how the competition was set up. A bit mystifying, but fun and I took lots of photos! We are off to Oxford for the weekend to catch up with our friends there, hopefully the weather will continue fine and warm - Abingdon has a great 'water park' down by the river.

Let me guess... you had to remain seated at all times on those comfortable blue plastic seats!

N's end of year sports day was a lot more hands on than that. Parents were asked to join in and play a game of softball against the Year 10's. I was the only one that caught one of the kids out, but damaged that good reputation when I threw the ball back to the pitcher....no were near in the right direction, but then I did hit the ball well enough to get to second base and get to home base. Meanwhile the younger kids were made to watch, sitting in the sun on a 30 deg day. N was one of only a few kids that Slip Slop Slapped...I had sunscreen but was not allowed to let other children use it...in case of reactions.
